Creating Smart, Effective & Useful Websites

Our Process

The best websites — are the best planned websites.

Here at Syracuse Design, we take pride in our work. By our work, we mean more than the hours designing, coding, and deploying websites. We're also talking about the painstaking process of planning websites from the ground up, keeping in mind the countless aspects of the project that could become probelmatic if they are not planned for ahead of time.

We follow the following 7 step methodology when taking on a new web project.

  1. Discovery
To build you the best website, we need to understand your business. We look at your current website, your competitors, your industry, and your target market. What are the goals of the website? Who are you trying to attract, and what is a successful web visit? Do you have analytics for your current site? We examine these and other questions to nail down information about you and your audience before moving to the next step.
  2. Site map
We work with you to develop a visual hierarchy of what is expected when visitors land on the homepage, and build all required navigation to the rest of your site, with clear descriptions of desired functionality of all the site’s elements. By segregating and grouping information to match the needs of your site visitors, we develop a structure and navigation that highlights your content into a cohesive, intuitive experience for users in all target segments.
  3. Design
To begin the creative process for the overall look and feel of your website, we will provide you with a distinct look for your homepage. We will work with you to edit and change elements until a final design is approved, which will allow us to prepare a look for all of the interior pages and any additional components like events calendars, blogs, e-commerce, collateral materials, etc.
  4. Development
To bring the new look to life in a development environment, we hand code the HTML and CSS code to allow users to interact with your new design. All widgets, forms, modules, databases, and applications are programmed to function seamlessly. You will be able to see this process online as we develop the site.
  5. Populating
Content Now that the site is alive, it's time to populate it. We can migrate your existing content to the new site, or work with you to create new or updated material. In some instances, clients will want to learn the Content Management System (CMS) and populate the site themselves. The CMS allows for editing just about anything on the site, giving you the power to develop your new website into an information resource that people want to use. We will also lend our web expertise in developing content that is customized to the preferences and tastes of your web users, and optimize your site across search engines, so users can easily find you.
  6. Deployment
The site is tested extensively for cross-platform and cross-browser compatibility. We also test the usability of the site, in case something was overlooked during the previous steps. During this stage, we tweak content and layout as needed to maximize the user experience.
  7. Post-Launch
The web is constantly evolving, and we are always here to make sure your site is meeting its full potential. Our experience has been that seldom is a site launched that doesn't require some minor tweaking post-launch. The best websites — are the best planned websites. However, rest assured that we will stand by, even after all the planning and reviewing, until any questions or issues are completed to your satisfaction.
